This month, Sony announced the long-awaited successor to the best mirrorless cameras, widely known model a6000. After a timid appearance on the digital camera market with the mirrorless NEX cameras models, the development and release of the best Sony’s a6000 model, make a real tsunami in the industry for digital cameras. Many professional photographers were thrilled by the concept and the quality they received from the new series of Sony ILCE cameras. Still undefeated a6000 model and without real competition until these days, received a successor. The rumors for announcing models as a6100 or a7000, with sensor of 36 megapixels, were untrue but Sony’s decision to keep a 24-megapixel sensor, and announce a model a6300. In the new model, Sony doesn’t introduces significant changes in the specifications. Sony will probably try to use the tactic that proved success when they announced the second versions of the full frame camera series A7, A7R and A7s, when within a year they announced three different varieties, each with their own specific features and advantages. Sony should be careful with this tactic, because this move made a lot of photographers angry. The new model a6300 comes in a housing which has the same shape as its predecessor, but unlike a6000, this time the whole is made of magnesium alloy which has improved durability of the camera. Also attention is paid to improve resistance to water and dust, which is feature offer only from the expensive professional cameras. Compactness offered by Sony mirrorless cameras is a big advantage over large, heavy DSLR cameras, but gives the impression of unprofessionalism. This perception is easily changed by paring the a6300 with a robust stabilizing support rig like the Cam Caddie Scorpion EX. The addition of a shoulder support rig or handle will give the camera a larger appearance while enhance the operators ability to comfortably maneuver the camera. Sensor used in the model a6300 is the same as the one in the model a6000, this time by improving the efficient collection of light and easy reading of the light, through the insertion of a copper wires in the sensor. The model a6300 will use the old know BIONZ X processor, with advanced algorithms for image processing. The improvements in the model a6300 that will put this model on the pedestal is the ability to record 4K video at 30fps, or 1080p video at 120fps, and extremely large number of autofocus points. A6300 model has 425 autofocus points unlike a6000 model featuring 179 autofocus points, allowing better tracking of objects in motion. In addition to the superior autofocus is the time to lock-up the focus by 0.05 seconds, making it fastest autofocus system that is embedded into any camera on the market. The hybrid autofocus system implemented in this Sony models enable continuous focus on objects when shooting video. This feature is important in the production of videos. The enhancements that come in the a6300 model are mainly to improve the performance of the video recording. The benefits of the large number of autofocus points, and the ability to record 4K video could be useful for professional video recording. This changes the concept of classic cameras intended for taking still pictures, and makes the digital camera more close to the video production. The notorious Electronic View Finder is still kept but it is enhanced by implementation of the new XGA OLED Tru-Finder technology, where Sony uses system of lenses with ZEISS T* coating in order to minimize the surface reflection and obtain real image on the EVF. The EVF has 2.4 million dots resolution with ability to trace the smoothness of the video captured with 120 fps. For those who have a lot of A-mount lenses and want to adapt them to E-mount of the a6300, there is a feature for advanced focal plane phase-detection for faster focus on the “slow” adapters like LA-EA1 and LA-EA3. The announced price of $ 1,000 for the new Sony a6300 might discourage some interest considering the a6000 is half the price and produces an image that is very close in quality. Especially when you factor in the quality of footage not only depends on the quality of the sensor, but it also depends on the quality of the lens.
